I belive that children thrive on a structured schedule. I have done child care with and without
a set daily schedule. When the children know what to expect each day things are MUCH better ! There are less problems
going from one activity to the next. Transitions are smooth, as the children know what to expect. The following is an example
of our average day. Weather and drop in children, may cause this to vary slightly. However I do my best to stick to it !
6:45 - 8:00 Arrival time. An educational video may be on at this time. Books, puzzles, etc.
are also provided.
8:00 - 8:50 Breakfast, clean up, brush teeth, potty.. get ready for learning !
9:00 - 10:15 Circle time. (song of the day, discuss weather, day of week, month, any special events
that day i.e. holidays, birthdays.. read book of day)
10:15 wash hands, potty, A.M. snack
10:35 - 11:15 Outdoor play/Learning play inside if raining
11:15 - 12:00 Craft project of the day
12:00 - 12:40 Lunch, clean up, brush teeth, potty
12:45 - 2:45 Naps (children will be allowed to nap as long as they need to. Afternoon times are approximate,
based on when everyone is up !)
2:45 - 3:00 Potty, wash hands, afternoon snack
3:00 - 3:30 Learing letters, shapes, numbers, etc. This will be done in different ways each day to
make it fun !
3:30 - 4:00 Music and movement. Learning new songs, dancing, etc.
4:00 - 5:00 Free time to end the day. may be a movie, painting, outdoor play, depending on
the day, weather and what the kids want to do. I think if they know, that if they do what is planned all day, but get
to pick the last hour it helps them to feel in control. This is like a reward at the end of a good school day.
Times are all approximate. There is always plenty to keep them busy !
